MEng, BEng Chemical Engineering

MEng BEng Chemical Engineering - undergraduate degree

Overview

Our Chemical Engineering degree equips graduates for successful careers in chemical and related process industries. Students are exposed to the fundamental science underpinning a wide range of process engineering concepts, and there are plenty of opportunities to put that knowledge into practice in design and research exercises.

In later years, you can choose to study more specialised modules covering a wide range of chemical engineering topics, such as separation processes, reaction engineering, particle process engineering and process control.

We are ranked 4th in the UK for Chemical Engineering by the Complete University Guide and we also rank highly in the other main league tables.

Career options

Careers in the field of Chemical Engineering are wide-ranging, and employment prospects are excellent. Recent graduates have successfully secured positions in chemical and pharmaceutical companies, fossil fuel and renewable energy plants, mineral processing and metals recycling operations, as well as other areas such as the utilities, consulting, environmental, health and safety, and other government agencies and banking and finance.

Recently published results from IChemE’s Salary Survey 2012 revealed good news for graduate chemical engineers. The survey found that chemical engineering is the best paid of the engineering disciplines with 2011 graduates earning a median starting salary of £28,000 per year, making it the third highest paying degree course after medicine and dentistry.
