Research in the School addresses industrial, commercial and societal needs in two main areas - energy, transport (both ground and air) and the environment and in speciality materials, including health, IT products and personal care.

Strongly interdisciplinary in nature, our institutes have long established collaborative links with other University of Leeds schools and departments, and with research institutions around the world. Collaborations are enhanced by several interdisciplinary research centres:
We are actively seeking research students to work on key projects. As a School we recruit approximately 40 research students a year from around the world, with over 140 overall across all years of their study.
