Industrial Training and Development

  • European Social Fund (£1.6m) SME training programmes (LAWD, RET, MISPRINT, BSEM) in waste management, printing and building sectors (Dr D Dixon-Hardy).
  • Host the Nonwovens Network (Prof S Russell), a national forum with over 130 industrial/academic members.
  • Industrial technology transfer though 13 knowledge transfer partnerships (EPSRC TCS/KTP, £1.1m plus £660k industrial contributions).
  • Continuing professional development programmes - income £2.4m, 23 courses/annum, attended by 2,600 delegates and involving 400 industrial speakers.

 

Innovation and Technology Transfer

  • OMEGA project (Prof M Pourkashanian) with Cambridge, Cranfield, Manchester Metropolitan, Sheffield and NGOs helping aviation industry address environmental and sustainability challenges caused by expansion (HEFCE HEIF3, £350k/£5m).
  • Innovation Fund (£200k, Clothworkers’ Foundation/University matched funding) for supporting commercialisation of fibrous structures research outcomes (Prof S Russell).
  • ERDF Advanced Composites programme (£1.7m), with Sheffield and 10 industrial partners, supporting new technical textile industry capabilities for production of speciality fibrous materials and composites (Prof C Lawrence).
  • Set-up and developed the NanoManufacturing Institute (Prof R Williams).
  • Creation and management of SME-Innovation Club (£225k, Yorkshire Forward and ECIF/HEFCE) to encourage innovation in Y&H SME's. (Dr S Lawson).
