Welcome to the School of Process, Environmental and Materials Engineering (SPEME)
SPEME is one of the largest integrated multidisciplinary engineering schools in Europe and is Number 3 in the UK after Oxford and Cambridge. It is a distinctive combination of materials, process and energy engineering, undertaking teaching, research, and knowledge transfer within the energy and transport, health and personal care, and speciality materials sectors.
We offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, plus a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses across three main discipline areas:
- Aviation Techonology
- Materials
- Process Engineering incorporating the disciplines of Chemical Engineering and Energy & Environmental Engineering
World class research is organised and delivered through three research institutes and the new Doctoral Training Centre in Low Carbon Technologies:
- Energy and Resources Research Institute (ERRI) - Combustion, Energy, Future Fuels, Aviation
- Institute for Materials Research (IMR) - Carbon, Electroceramics, Novel Alloys & Steels, Photonics, Textile Structures
- Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE) - Chemical Engineering, Mineral Process Engineering
-
research expenditure has more than doubled to £36.7m,
-
income from Knowledge Transfer activities has grown to over £9m,
-
there has been £9.8m investment in facilities,
-
research publications have grown by more than 70% to over 1900,
-
