Electronic products and devices for patient monitoring, diagnostics, imaging and therapy are key to the modern healthcare system. Rapid advances in microelectronics, bio-nanotechnology and sensors are also offering new possibilities ranging from highly advanced neuroprosthetic implants through to low cost products for home use by patients. The challenge for those involved in healthcare, health management, product development and applied research is to ensure that new devices are thoroughly assessed according to stringent regulatory requirements, whilst enabling patients to benefit as soon as possible from the latest advances in technology.
