Barbara Evans splits her time between the Institute and working directly with governments and agencies of countries of the south. Her primary interests lie in the effective delivery of sanitation to people living in impoverished and unplanned urban communities. Her research includes the investigation of potential new technologies for effective urban sanitation encompassing the safe management of pathogenic excreta and the sustainable reuse of nutrients..

Professor Stentiford is a leading expert in the fields of composting and effective waste management. His extensive research includes examination of the practical application of composting at scale and the effective management of wastes in developing country environments. For further information see his web page.

Andy Sleigh has worked on a wide range of numerical modelling and solution techniques for engineering problems. In particular he has developed multigrid acceleration techniques for incompressible flow solutions and Riemann solver based programs for rapidly changing open channel flows with complex topography. This latter work forms one of his main lines of current research. Other major research interests are in the area of computational modelling of waste water treatment systems including fluidised bed biofilm-reactors and waste stabilsation ponds.

Dr Ian Goodwill is a civil engineer specialising in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology and water resources, in particular numerical modelling in these fields. Dr Goodwill's research is principally in the modelling of flow phenomena in ground water and open channel hydraulics. Current interests within these areas include well hydraulics and saline intrusion in coastal aquifers.

Dr. L Fletcher Dr Fletcher's research interests encompass a range of different areas within the fields of microbiology and aerobiology. At present her research is primarily focused on the field of aerobiology with particular emphasis on the control of pathogens in clinical environments. Dr Fletcher is also interested in the aerobiological aspects of waste treatment and disposal with the focus being the generation and dispersal of bacterial and fungal pathogens during composting.
