Waste composting
This has been an active area of research in the School since the mid 80s and continues to be one of the major lines of research in the waste management area
During this time the research has focused primarily on:
- Optimisation of composting systems;
- The transfer of research ideas to full-scale composting systems
- Measurement of the extent of stabilisation and sanitisation;
- Pathogen monitoring and control; and
- The design of systems for developing countries.
Examples of some of those projects are given via the links shown. Whilst a significant part of this work has been based in researchers over the years have been involved in projects in Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, Somalia, Kenya, Vietnam, Nepal and India.
Funding has come primarily from government, DFID, EU and the EPSRC.
