Dr Doug Stewart is a leading expert in the field of geo-environmental engineering. His particular interest is the evaluation and remediation of metal and radionuclide contaminated groundwater. His work focuses on species that are mobile in soil, or can be easily mobilised by naturally occurring ligands (e.g. chromium, copper and uranium). A major thrust of his current work is the effect of soil bacteria on contaminant mobility, toxicity and treatability. Other interests include the development of sensor systems for monitoring contaminated land, the performance of landfill liner materials, and the geotechnical behaviour of soft soils, waste ashes and tailings. John Barton is a leading researcher in the fields of solid waste management. His main research interests are in waste recovery techniques and the associated policy and decision making processes in waste management using life cycle analysis and multi criteria decision analysis tools. Technical aspects covered include analysis and prediction of waste composition and arisings and the design, performance monitoring /evaluation of waste collection & transfer, recycling and residual/mixed waste treatment systems (MRF, MBT, Autoclave, SRF combustion/incineration and gasification processes) J.R.Barton@leeds.ac.uk , +44 (0) 113 343 2278 |
