Our research is designed to influence, respond to and engage in industrial, societal and legislative initiatives and drivers. These drivers include energy efficiency, sustainability, environmental impact, emissions, safety, healthcare, and challenges of an ageing population.
To help us achieve this we have three research institutes and a doctoral training centre:

Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering - Joint replacement; Tissue re-engineering; Cardiac imaging and modelling; Cartilage tissue substitution; Spine Biomechanics
Doctoral Training Centre in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.
The School achieved an impressive 75% of staff rated internationally excellent or world leading in the UK according to the Government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), placing the School in the top 5 in the UK.
We are actively seeking research students to work on key projects. As a School we recruit approximately 30 research students a year from around the world, with over 100 overall across all years of their study.
