research

Analysis, design and synthesis of processes for improvement of existing as well as development of new and innovative technologies.

Examples of typical processes under study are: colloids, combustion, comminution, crystallisation, granulation, dispersion, emulsification, explosion, interfacial transport, mineral processing, mixing, nanomanufacturing, nanopowders, supercritical fluid processing and toxicity assessment. We aim to provide generic solutions to complex problems by addressing the engineering science of phenomena involved in these processes and products.

Research capabilities are:

  • Solids handling, transportation and storage (mixing, packing, segregation, fluidisation, agglomeration, crystallisation and precipitation)
  • Dispersion, combustion and flame processes
  • Evaluation of kinetic mechanisms
  • Filtration and drying
  • Milling and grinding
  • Electrostatic applications
  • Colloidal and suspension formulation
  • Tabletting and compaction
  • Supercritical CO2 processing
  • Nanopowder manufacturing
  • Emulsions and emulsification
  • Process intensification
  • Gravity eparation technology (Hydrocyclones)
  • Toxicity evaluation
