The Institute of Microwaves and Photonics (IMP) has two broad research themes. The first concerns the generation, detection and exploitation of radiation from the millimetre/microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum, through the THz range, and on to the mid-infrared and beyond.
The second theme concerns the design, fabrication and measurement of nanostructured electronic and photonic devices, along with the exploitation of biological processes for directed nanoassembly.
The IMP has seventeen academic staff, including eight professors. There are fourteen research fellows, two experimental officers and around thirty-five PhD students.
