The Institute of Engineering Thermofluids, Surfaces and Interfaces (iETSI) was formed in 2006 and is the largest research institute in the School of Mechanical Engineering. The last few years have been extremely exciting as our research has evolved and expanded. We continue to exhibit our strengths in tribology, combustion and thin films - areas that Leeds has excelled in for many decades.
In addition we have developed our research
in new areas such as Corrosion, Engineering
Optics, Biomimetics and Microfluidics.
Our interaction with industry in the UK and overseas continues to thrive. We have a strong reputation for working with industries in the automotive sector and across the manufacturing sector and more recently we have developed strategic partnerships in the healthcare and oil and gas sectors.
Since 2006 our postgraduate numbers have grown and we now have 70 PhD students working on a diverse range of projects. Our postgraduate and postdoctoral research community are the linchpins of our Institute and it is through them that we are able to deliver exciting and innovative research.
We have ambitious targets and what makes these realistic is our extremely talented and versatile staff. As engineers we are continually addressing some of the most challenging technological issues by devising creative and adventurous research programmes.
