The Institute of Engineering Systems and Design (iESD) is the smallest of the three research institutes in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Leeds, but we work with colleagues in the widest range of disciplines. We are working towards the definition of well-founded and systematic processes for the design and delivery of human-centred solutions that both meet the needs of multiple stakeholders and incorporate human ingenuity, creativity and flair. We deliver our research through multi-disciplinary collaborations, user engagement and partnerships with industry in the consumer goods, high value industrial systems and medical device sectors.

Additionally, we are part of an internationally leading department, and can boast highly regarded academic staff who guide over 50 researchers in applying their skills.
