What is an MDes?

Integrated Master

The majority of our undergraduate degrees are offered as integrated masters (MEng, BEng) , (MEng, BSc) or (MDes, BDes) degrees providing great breadth and depth of study for our students. Students will normally graduate after 4 years with an integrated MEng however, some students, and in particular those from overseas, may prefer to graduate with a BDes.

In this case, students can complete their studies after 3 years and then join one of the many one year masters (MSc) courses offered by the Faculty or go directly into employment.

Benefits:

  • Future prospects are excellent
  • Provides you with a greater breadth and depth of study
  • Enhance employability
  • Higher salaries

What our students say:

Melanie, Civil with Environmental Engineering student: "I believe the reason I have been offered multiple jobs is because I am studying an Integrated Masters degree. Masters students are more sought after by employers and there are many options as to which industry we can work in after graduation. I feel I am now better equipped to start work as a professional engineer due to completing my masters. I have had more time to tailor my degree towards my career interests, which is very beneficial, and when you start work the pay is higher for a masters student. As all the students are together for four years and have made strong friendships this has benefited everyone as we are able to help each other and form closer teams when we undertake project work."

Phillip, Mechatronics and Robotices student: "By doing the Masters year of my degree, I feel that I have gained a number of different things. Firstly I have gained an easier entrance into a job that most other bachelor degree entries would. Also, the experience of working as part of a team for project work, which will provide extremely important throughout my future career."
