We have a range of expertise in public health broken down under the following headings: Health protection; Understanding causes; Patient care and patient safety.
Health protection
The Pathogen Control Engineering Institute is involved in research into sanitation for developing countries, safe treatment of waste, waste water and clean water and environmental controls for airborne infection.
The Institute of Engineering Thermofluids, Surfaces and Interfaces also has some student projects in this area.
Understanding causes
The Pathogen Control Engineering Institute carries out research into the transport and survival of pathogens in air, water and soils.
The Institute for Computational and Systems Science has some research activity and student projects in this area although it is not the primary focus of their activity.
Patient care and patient safety
The Pathogen Control Engineering Institute is actively engaged in research into the design of healtchare environments, including ventilation of hospitals.
