Faculty of Engineering

Research

The Faculty of Engineering is one of the UK’s top engineering and computing faculties, with an international reputation for teaching and research.

The high quality of our research was confirmed by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), which means we can continue to recruit the best research staff and students, invest in our facilities and continue to build links with industry and research partners in the UK and overseas.

The range and scope of our research is extensive and covers all of the major engineering disciplines, including cross cutting themes such as energy, materials, medical engineering and artificial intelligence, with theoretical, experimental and modelling work underpinning all areas.

This provides an ideal platform for multidisciplinary research, enabling us to undertake high-impact research in areas recognised as providing critical global challenges.

Research within the Faculty is undertaken by a number of research institutes.

We have also aligned our Faculty with industry sectors such as digital technologies, energy, high value chemicals and medical technologies.
