Doctoral Training Centre in Low Carbon Technologies

The University of Leeds has been awarded £6.5M to fund a Doctoral Training Centre in Low Carbon Technologies. The DTC brings together a cohort of postgraduate research students and their supervisors to develop innovative technologies for a low carbon future based around key interlinking themes:

- Low Carbon Enabling Technologies
- Transport & Energy
- Carbon Storage
- Climate Change & Energy Systems Research

This is an opportunity to study for a 4 year fully funded 'Integrated PhD and MSc' in Low Carbon Technologies within an established interdisciplinary Institute ‘Earth, Energy & Environment: E³’.

Funding: £6.5m EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) funded programme for 50 PhD students between 2009 and 2017.

Number of Awards: 12 UK/EU studentships available and 1 International studentship available plus 3 places for self-funded international students for 2012 entry.

Value: UK students will be eligible for a full award, covering the cost of academic fees (UK/EU rate) and a maintenance grant of £16,000. EU candidates will be eligible for a fees-only award.

Entry requirements: A Master’s degree and/or at least an upper second class (2i) honours degree in engineering or a physical science or related discipline degree. (e.g. Engineering; Chemistry; Maths; Physics; Computing; Transport; Environmental Science/Management). Applicants with a 2:2 first degree will not be considered, even if they also have a Master's level degree. Applicants must have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least 3 years in order to be eligible for full funding.
