Engineering Outreach Activities

Throughout the year we organise and deliver events and activities that highlight the range of subjects and careers within the fascinating world of engineering.

Listed below are the main events we run on campus and in schools. If you have any questions or require any further information please contact Dr Kerry Baker.

Engineering Experience 19 March 2016 All Part of the Leeds Festival of Science, Engineering Experience offers people of all ages a chance to learn more about engineering in fun, interactive and hands-on ways.
Headstart Summer School 27 June 2016 Year 12 Organised by EDT we have 30 places for Year 12 pupils to attend a four day residential course to explore all areas of engineering.
Inspire Summer School 11 July 2016 Year 11 Organised by EDT we have 30 places for Year 11 girls to attend a three day residential course to explore all areas of engineering.
Nanotechnology Summer School 18 July 2016 (tbc) Year 12 Organised by the Smallpeice Trust we have 20 places for Year 12 pupils to learn more about nanotechnology on a four day summer school.
Nuclear Engineering Summer School 18 July 2016 (tbc) Year 12 Organised by the Smallpeice Trust we have 20 places for Year 12 pupils to learn more about nuclear engineering on a four day summer school.
Hacker Day (Electronics) July 2016 (date tbc) Year 10-12 An electronics challenge for school pupils. More information to follow...
Deershed Festival Late July 2016 All A group of students and staff plan to attend this festival with hands-on, fun engineering activities suitable for all ages – come along and get involved!

Engineering Facilities School Visit Schedule
If you are interested in attending a workshop or taking a tour of our robotics facility please email Dr Kerry Baker. Places will be given on a first come first served basis.

Robotics Facility Year 7-9 Max 16 10.00-14.00 The day starts with a computing workshop to develop your own mobile apps then packed lunches (your own) in Parkinson Court and finishing with a tour of the robotics facility

Robotics Facility Year 6 Max 30 12.00-14.00 A one hour tour of the robotics facility followed by a robotics activity

You will have one week from confirmation of booking to ensure all permissions are in place from your school otherwise the places will be offered to the next school that applied.

Please note, the majority of engineering courses at the University of Leeds require an A-Level in mathematics, which means that the activities will be most appropriate for pupils with an aptitude for mathematics (as well as physics and chemistry). These activities do not cover apprenticeships and vocational routes in any detail.
