The University of Leeds, the Royal Academy of Engineering and Radio Design Ltd are delighted to announce the establishment of a new Research Chair focused on original research in the field of microwave signal processing.
Professor Ian Hunter of the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering has been appointed to this position and will head up the Centre of Microwave Signal Processing here at the University of Leeds.
Driven by the demand for mobile internet, video streaming and the latest apps, mobile communication systems require access to evermore bandwidth whilst supporting multiple technologies including 3G, 4G and beyond. The programme of research will focus on new microwave signal processing technology to overcome the challenges facing radio frequency (rf) system designers in the field of wireless communication infrastructure.
Professor Ian Hunter studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Leeds. After completing his PhD he spent time in industry, leading teams developing microwave devices for EW applications in the US, before working on defence and communications related projects in the UK. He presently holds the Chair in Microwave Signal Processing at the University of Leeds. He is a Fellow of the IET and an elected Fellow of the IEEE "for contributions to theory and design of microwave filters". He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Electronics, published by Taylor and Francis and was the General Chairman of European Microwave Week 2011, the premier European event for Microwave Technology, with over 1300 conference delegates.
