Energy Research Institute

The Energy Research Institute (ERI) is a major pioneering force of international standing within the disciplines of energy and resources.

Strongly interdisciplinary in nature, having long-standing collaborative links with other University of Leeds schools and departments, as well as with other academic institutions around the world, the Institute spans a diverse portfolio of research areas.

Current activities are organised within 3 main areas:

There are also a number of integrated activities centring on end applications, such as Aviation, an active and interdisciplinary research programme organised through the Centre for Integrated Energy Research (CIER).

ERI's research and innovation has major impact on industry, government and broader society. Here are some examples of our impact in the form of case studies.

Naturally for engineering research institutes, there is substantial interaction with industry through leading edge research collaborations, development of novel techniques and processes, and in continuing professional development in the form of masters degrees and short courses, clearly benefitting our industrial partners.

The opportunity to involve fresh, emerging academic talent in real-world industrial research projects means that businesses searching for key strategic personnel may well know who they need before a student graduates. Many of our postgraduates go on to hold prestigious positions in prominent multinational blue-chip organisations.
