Institute for Public Health and Environmental Engineering

Tackling global health and sanitation challenges

The Institute for Public Health and Environmental Engineering takes a global outlook in public health and environmental engineering, investigating the interactions between infrastructure, the environment and human health.

Research ranges from fundamental science to innovative applications and focuses on several interconnected areas including:

Aerobiology and infection control
Contaminated land and ground water
Resource recovery
WASH: water, sanitation and health
Flood risk management
Numerical modelling for environmental and public health issues

The Institute includes academics from a broad range of engineering disciplines as well as bio-chemists and microbiologists and has strong links with a cross-faculty institute: water@leeds.
