Thirty Years On: The Unchanging Face of Major Project Management
When : 18:30 Tuesday 19 June 2012
Where: London - venue TBC
In 1982, the MPA offered its first full series of events which covered unresolved issues of risk and organisation in projects, relationships in international projects and a case study on nuclear new build. Since that date we have seen the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of the internet and the growth of the BRIC economies. The technologies and markets for major projects have changed radically in response to this but has the management of projects kept pace? The series offered for the first year of the MPA’s inception looks very similar to that of today!
Naomi Brookes examines the unchanging face of major project management and the implications that this has for project delivery performance. She looks at ‘knowing-doing gaps’ and talks through the reasons why we don’t do what we know we should in project management. She reviews approaches, both radical and mundane, in which we can make real and effective changes to the way we manage major projects.
This evening will provide a thought-provoking and entertaining reflection on the state of the art of project management for anyone who is responsible for the delivery of major projects.
