Why did you choose to study Music, Multimedia and Electronics at Leeds?
I had been to Leeds on both high school and college organised trips and I loved the university from the start. Even when I had originally chosen Aeronautical engineering Leeds was one of my places of choice. I chose the course because it suits who I am and what I’m about. I have played the piano most of my life and I work quite closely with audio engineering on a weekly basis. I have a great passion for music and this course was everything I needed.
What did you enjoy about your course?
I enjoy most aspects of the course especially the practical work where I can get fully involved and discover things on my own or in a select group.
What have been the highlights of the course?
Possibly the most satisfying and rewarding aspects of the course are when things work. Any time when I have been involved in a project that has accomplished its goal then that is a highlight for me.
What have you found challenging?
The most challenging parts of the course are difficult concepts. Trying to understand them and formulating them in my own mind is difficult sometimes, but overall a rewarding challenge.
What has been the best part of the course so far?
The best part of the course so far has to be the eventual movement of a Traxter we had been designing for weeks. The whole group were extremely happy to see it working!
Why did you choose the University of Leeds?
I chose this university because it had fantastic facilities and it generally felt a really nice place to study and work. I had always regarded Leeds very highly from the first mention of going to university.
What have been the highlights of your time at the University of Leeds?
I’m not particularly a party person and travelling makes life at Leeds generally university based, however on some breaks my highlights are to wander into town with friends and have a shop or meal at the local fast food restaurant!
What do you think about the facilities (library / computers etc) available to students?
Extremely good quality, the library is huge and has everything you could want. The computer network is vast and there is always access to the internet via WiFi around the campus.
Was it easy to make friends with people on your course/the wider university?
In terms of the people that were on my course it was very easy to make friends. They were all generally of the same age and interest so it wasn’t difficult to find common traits. Around the wider university is also quite easy to make friends, people are generally very friendly and will always be willing to help out.
What would you say to students thinking about coming do the same course?
It’s a brilliant course which is not very widely known. I have 15 people on my course. However the fact there aren’t many on the course doesn’t make a difference as there is a sense of individuality and you can relate more to the group as you make friends quickly. The course modules are fun and engaging, more so I imagine in further years as the course becomes more specific.
What are your ambitions for the future? Do you have specific career plans?
In the future I would love to be involved in anything really to do with the field of sound/audio. Preferably I would like to become an audio engineer for a recording company or just privately.
