Through the Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) we aim to catalyse greater knowledge exchange between the University and external parties, such as business and the public sector, create a greater critical mass of expertise in low carbon technologies in the UK and provide the opportunity for increased research collaboration with scientists around the world.
The DTC is funded initially for five years and in that time we will train at least 50 researchers directly, and aim to leverage further studentships from industry and overseas.
The first cohort began work in 2009. As of 2013 the centre consists of 37 PhD students, with a further 14 due to join in autumn 2013. They joined 100 PhD students already conducting research in fields directly related or allied to low carbon technologies.
A new £12.5 million Energy Research building was opened on Wednesday 21st March 2012 by Ambassador Richard Jones from the International Energy Agency (IEA), providing a state-of-the-art home for all DTC students as well as those students working on energy related research outside the DTC.
