FACULTY OF ENGINEERING

For students who have found a placement

This page gives important information for students who have confirmed placements. This is also summarised in the Information Sheet.

Administration

Change of programme form

Make sure you have filled in a Change of Programme Form by the end of teaching for Semester 1 (mid December). See Maria in the CSO (Computing Student Office) in the Long Room. Note that this is necessary even if you originally applied to do a degree with industrial placement in your original application to the University.

Other forms

Please make sure you let us know the details of where the placement is, who your manager will be etc. You do this by filling the placement confirmation form (Word doc). The form is also available at the CSO in the Long Room.

There is also an address form (Word doc) for you to complete if you are moving for your placement year. Please return forms to Maria in the CSO.

If any information changes (address, name of manager, etc) please let us know as soon as possible by e-mailing m.a.thompson@leeds.ac.uk and also copy the e-mail to a.marshall@leeds.ac.uk.

The company should also see that the Health and Safety form is completed and returned to the School before the first day of your employment.

Assessment and portfolio

The placement is assessed as a module, and this is explained in full on the Assessments Page.

You are required to keep a portfolio throughout your placement - more details may be found on the Assessments Page.

For students on placements, the deadline for portfolio submission is 5pm on the first Monday of teaching (usually last Monday in September). Portfolio reports should be submitted to Maria in the CSO.

Practical issues

Student Cards

You should collect your Student ID Card from Central Student Administration before you leave. These will be available in June.

School of Computing user names

Students out on placement keep their School of Computing accounts and can continue to use them while out on placement. You should check this account regularly or forward your e-mail to another address, as important communications about placements may be sent to your School of Computing address.
