Overview

Computer Science is at the cutting-edge of efforts to generate and apply future generations of technology. The solution of real world problems such as those relating to climate change, medicine or financial affairs requires Computer Scientists with advanced skills and knowledge in modelling and algorithm design.

Our undergraduate degree course in Computer Science includes core topics such as computer programming, operating systems, networking and Internet systems. In addition, specialist areas that focus on computationally challenging problems are developed through teaching and project work.

Entry requirements

- AAB at A-level including Mathematics
- Engineering Diploma or IT Diploma grade A plus A-level (A2) Mathematics grade B or higher.
- IB: 36 points overall, with 17 points at higher level to include 5 in mathematics

We also welcome and accept students with a wide range of alternative UK and international qualifications.

English requirement: A pass at GCSE level in English Language (grade C or above). International students must have an English language qualification at a suitable level, for example IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

With the continuing application of computer technologies, rapid growth of hardware and software technologies, their allied industries, and widespread application, the demand for our graduates is set to continue for the foreseeable future. We have close links with companies such as IBM, Accenture and Hewlett Packard, and employers ranging from small/medium enterprises to large multi-nationals consistently target our graduates. Recent graduates from the School have been employed in many types of organisations across a range of sectors including manufacturing, retail, finance, public authorities and consultancies. Recent employers include Fujitsu, Halifax Financial Services, Accenture, Euro Direct, NHS, GCHQ, Stock Exchange, Aquilic Technology, Vodaphone, Citibank, Allied Irish Bank, IBM, Citrix, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Rockliff, Visualfiles, Eurotel, Norwich Union, Orange, BAE Systems, SCEE Computer Games, GE Capital, Nokia and Morgan Stanley.
