Scheduling and Constraints
The group conducts research into the use of mathematical programming, genetic algorithms and metaheuristics to optimise the scheduling of public transport systems. The group is one of the longest standing in the School and has a long history of involvement in scheduling applications in the UK transport industry, leading to a spinout comapny, TRACSiS:
TRACSiS was founded in early 2004, spinning off after over 40 years of research and development in bus and train scheduling software at the University of Leeds. It has 30 transport companies using its software in the UK, including several major train operating companies. Its business specialises in state-of-the-art scheduling software that has been designed around real-world environments, to deliver driver schedules that are unparalleled in terms of efficacy and robustness.
