In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) the School is in the top 10 computer sciences departments, achieving an impressive 80% of staff rated as internationally excellent or World leading.
Over the past seven years we have attracted grants from each of the seven UK Research Councils, government departments, the European Union and many industrial sources.

The School is home to a large community of research staff and students, with over 30 research staff and 70 research students working as groups within dedicated research laboratories. Groups are led by senior staff who are internationally recognised leaders in their field, and each one runs an active series of research meetings and seminars.
A case study - Bicycle Theft Detection. Research to recognise drop and pick events and linking related events applied to bicycles. This method could assist in raising the alarm when the person picking the bicycle does not 'look like' the person who dropped it. read more
