When you start studying for a Computing PhD at Leeds University School of Computing you automatically join an active community, pursuing new areas of thought and study in their chosen fields.

We have a growing network of researchers, academics and lecturers all pursuing theories for the betterment of themselves and, by association, the School of Computing.

Using our state-of-the-art technology and facilities, we inspire our students to challenge established theories and develop new ways of understanding the field of computing.

Internationally Recognised Research Staff and Department
It is this community of research that helped us achieve the status of a top ten UK computer science department as rated by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Further to this, 80% of our staff are rated internationally excellent.

Our past research has included breakthrough results in the theoretical foundations of computer science through to highly applied computational modelling and systems engineering.

More often than not, this research is carried out with leading international companies, giving you the chance, when studying a Computing PhD, to work with industry leading firms. It is also an early opportunity to gain valuable experience and potentially develop some useful contacts.

Regular Research Grants
As we continue to invest our resources into different fields of research we encourage grants from various sources. The seven UK Research Councils, government departments, the European Union and many industrial sources have provided Leeds University School of Computing with funds for further research. These are funds that have considerably aided the work of our research staff and students alike and could help you when studying a Computing PhD with us.
