Top facilities at our computer science department

To aid our research and further your academic potential at Leeds University School of Computing we provide first-class facilities in our computer science department.

You will find access to state-of-the-art workstations with Linux and Windows operating systems so that you can produce your work, quickly and professionally. However, to ensure that you can take your research further, you will find state-of-the-art graphics and visualisation laboratories, including a 53-megapixel powerwall and a 3D virtual reality suite.

Unparalleled Computer Power
These facilities allow our students to conduct the kind of exemplary research that has made us a top ten UK computing department. Yet, it is also our relationships with other institutions that allow us to offer you a professional and learning conducive environment.

We are part of the White Rose University Consortium (WRUC) – a partnership consisting of three Yorkshire universities – that allows our computer science department to access the White Rose Grid, a major research infrastructure with unparalleled computing power.

More Than Just Facilities at Our Computer Science Department
To complement our array of state-of-the-art technology, our computer science department will also provide you with the same facilities expected at most universities. We have access to an extensive library with over three million items. This makes it one of the largest in the UK.

Then there is the staff. Okay, technically they’re not facilities, but their wealth of knowledge and expertise in their respective fields of research makes them a valuable resource for the computer science department.

They lead many of our courses and they are always on hand to discuss new ideas and your proposals for research.
