Undergraduate Study - Industrial Placement

The School offers a 4-year industrial placement programme in which you may work for 9-15 months between the second and third years of your degree programme. This gives you the chance to apply your knowledge of IT, motivate your future learning, get a step ahead in the search for a career, and not least earn some money!

You arrange your own placement, though the School assists in this process through its extensive network of external links with companies, which range from small local employers to large multi-nationals. The School's industrial placement tutor administers the process from publishing vacancies to monitoring progress. You must decide whether you want to take up this opportunity by Christmas of the second year.

In recent years, around one in six of our undergraduate students has taken the placement option. Among the companies who have received them are: BNFL, British Steel, British Telecom, Colgate-Palmolive, Defence Research Agency, Ford, IBM, KPMG, Leeds City Council, Logica, Sun Microsystems, Texas Instruments, Yorkshire Building Society and Yorkshire Electricity.
