50 years on, but the best is yet to come
Prof. Dave Cliff, University of Bristol: 10th October 2007
2-3pm, Mech. Eng. Lecture Theatre B, University of Leeds
After half a century of truly astonishing progress in computing, it is very tempting to think that all the hard problems have been solved. But the truth is that the next 50 years looks set to be a period of even more astonishing progress, so long as we can solve some more outstanding research problems
In this fast-paced (and frequently light-hearted) lecture, Dave Cliff takes a personal tour through the highlights of the past and the major challenges of the future for research in computing and computer science.
The lecture should be understandable by anyone, so long as they listen fast enough.
This talk is being given at all UK universities celebrating their 50th computing anniversary in 2007 as part of the BCS jubilee celebrations.
Admission is FREE, but please apply for tickets in advance from Dr Joanna Briggs: (0113) 3435478.
