Computer-Aided Engineering

Following the establishment of the Institute of Resilient Infrastructure (iRI), this is effectively a legacy website for the multi-disciplinary CAE research group that was led by Alastair Watson (a.s.watson@leeds.ac.uk). The CAE research group was concerned with the application of information and communications technologies to civil and structural engineering processes. It included research staff and research students and participated in a wide range of national and international research and development projects.  The group gained an international reputation for its innovative work applying concepts such as product modelling to achieve more efficient information-based and knowledge-based working within the construction sector.

Dr Watson is now working in the context of the iRI, underpinning it's research with concepts informed by the research contained in this website.  He would be particularly interested to hearing from prospective PhD students interested in research topics such as:

  • Building Information Modelling as an agent for change

  • The implications of whole life costing

  • Resilient design for the twenty first centaury
