Masters scholarships (2016 entry)

The School of Civil Engineering is offering a number of scholarships to attract the very brightest students from around the world.

The UK government has recently announced a postgraduate loans scheme for UK students providing up to £10,000 a year for Masters study.

Head of School Excellence Scholarship

Who is eligible? Any UK/EU applicant who has been offered a place on any of the postgraduate masters courses (except our Advanced Concrete Technology course) within the School of Civil Engineering.
How are they awarded? This is an automatic scholarship awarded on condition of you achieving the equivalent of a UK first class degree.
How much are they worth? £2,500
Application deadline No deadline - automatic
Conditions apply Applicants must be self-funding, classified as UK/EU for tuition fee purposes and not be in receipt of any other University of Leeds award.

Alumni Bursary

This is a bursary for any former student of the University of Leeds studying for a postgraduate qualification in the School of Civil Engineering Excluding courses that are run in conjunction with other universities. This bursary is open to students who are commencing their studies from September 2013 onwards, the bursary can not be awarded retrospectively. To find out more about the Alumni Bursary, please visit the University's website.
Who is eligible? This is an automatic bursary but you have to inform us and provide evidence that you are a former student of the University of Leeds.
How much is it worth? The University will pay 10% of your fees for each year of the course. If no fees paid then no bursary is awarded.
Application deadline None – automatic. If you think you are eligible you need to contact the relevant admissions team for the course you have applied for.

Ray and Naomi Simpson Scholarship

Who is eligible?

The School of Civil Engineering offers the Ray and Naomi Simpson Scholarship to the best British applicant. If there are no British applicants then the scholarship may be awarded to the best applicant from a British Commonwealth country.

How much are they worth?

The Scholarship is worth £3,000 towards fees and £1,000 towards maintenance.

The Water Conservation Trust in conjunction with WAMITAB and ESAET Bursary

Who is eligible?

Any UK/EU applicant who has been offered a place on the Environmental Engineering and Project Management MSc. Bursary candidates should demonstrate need and must be able to work in or from the UK.

How are they awarded? To be selected for this award, students must demonstrate excellent academic achievement.
How much are they worth? The bursary is worth £4,000 towards fees.

Water, Sanitation and Health Engineering Scholarship

Who is eligible? Any applicant who has been offered a place on the Water, Sanitation and Health Engineering (WASH) MSc programme within the School of Civil Engineering.
How are they awarded? To be selected for this award, students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, experience and a clear statement of interest in water, sanitation and hygiene on the application form. Applications will be considered by a panel of staff from the School of Civil Engineering and the Nuffield Centre for International Health.
How much are they worth? The bursary is worth £5,000 towards fees.
How many are available? 4

ACT Diploma Scholarship

Who is eligible? Any applicant with approved prior learning (ACT Diploma awarded by the Institute of Concrete Technology) who has been offered a place on the MSc Advanced Concrete Technology (research project only).
How are they awarded? To be selected on the basis of the ACT diploma grade
How much are they worth? £1,500
How many are available? Up to 25

International

COLFUTURO - Scholarship Loan Scheme (Colombia)

Who is eligible? Students in Colombia interested in this Joint Graduate Loan-Scholarship Programme.
How are they awarded? Students who hold an academic offer as full-time taught postgraduate with the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds and who are selected as beneficiaries of the Loan-Scholarship Programme of COLFUTURO.
How much are they worth? 20% tuition fee scholarship to all eligible students plus one 50% tuition fee scholarship for the MSc Water, Sanitation and Health Engineering.

Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (UAI), Chile

The University of Leeds’ Faculty of Engineering has a formal agreement with the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez in Chile. UAI students, who enrol at Leeds, upon successful completion of their programme of study will be awarded an MSc from the University of Leeds. The Universidad Adolfo Ibanez may accept the credits gained by their students on the UL’s masters programmes towards a UAI’s Degree of Engineering (Titulo de Ingeniero) or Master of Science degree in Engineering (MSc) delivered by UAI’s Faculty of Engineering and Sciences.
Who is eligible? Students who have completed a four-year BSc in Engineering (Licenciatura en Ciencias de la Ingenieria) from the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences at the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (UAI).
How are they awarded? UAI students who hold an academic offer for a full-time masters programme in the School of Civil Engineering (excluding MSc Advanced Concrete Technology) at the University of Leeds and who have completed the four-year BSc in Engineering.
How much are they worth? 20% tuition fee scholarship to all eligible students
Conditions apply Applicants must achieve the University of Leeds minimum entry requirements. For programmes requiring a 2.1, the equivalent entry is GPA 5.5/7.0 and for programmes requiring a 2.2, the equivalent entry is GPA 5.0/7.0. They will also be required to obtain the standard programme entry requirements for English Language, i.e. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. CONACYT (Mexico)
The University of Leeds has a formal cooperation agreement with the Mexican Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACYT) which provides reduced tuition fees to CONACYT sponsored students. Leeds has been a CONACYT partner for many years and students can study at both masters and PhD level across a wide range of subject areas.
